Iodine-131 is used medically to study the activity of the thyroid gland. Iodine – 131 has a half-life of about 8 days. This mean

s that approximately every 8 days, half the mass of the iodine decays into another element. If a container held a mass of 64 milligrams of iodine – 131, how much is left after 40 days?

Answer:

0.002 mg of sample will be left after 40 days.

Step-by-step explanation:

Half life of the iodine-131 =t_{\frac{1}{2}}= 8 days

Initial amount of iodine-131 =N_o= 64 milligrams = 0.064 g

Amount of iodine-131 left after the time of  40 days = N

Decay constant =\lambda = ?

\lambda =\frac{0.693}{t_{\frac{1}{2}}}=0.0866 day ^{-1}

\log[N]=\log[N_o]-\frac{\lambda \times t}{2.303}

\log[N]=\log[0.064 g]-\frac{0.0866 day^{-1}\times 40 days}{2.303}

N=Antilog [-2.6979 g]

N = 0.002004 g = 0.002 mg

0.002 mg of sample will be left after 40 days.

A theater company charges $9.50 per ticket for people of all age groups. If c represents the total number of children who bought
vlada-n [284]
C= number of children tickets
a= number of adult tickets

In the equation, $9.50 per ticket must be multiplied by each c and a in order to calculate the total.

($9.50 * c) + ($9.50 * a)

since each term has $9.50 in it, we can pull out the common $9.50 in each

$9.50(c + a)

this expression now means that we must multiply $9.50 by c and then multiply $9.50 by a (using the distributive property)

ANSWER: $9.50(c + a) - the second choice down

Hope this helps! :)

The equation below describes a parabola. If a is positive, which way does the parabola open?
madreJ [45]

we know that

the equation

y=ax^{2}

describe a vertical parabola with vertex at point (0,0)

if  a> 0 -------> the parabola open Up and the vertex is a minimum

if  a< 0 -------> the parabola open Down and the vertex is a maximum

in this problem we have

a> 0 ---> because is positive (given problem)

so

The vertex is a minimum

therefore

<u>the answer is the option C</u>

Up

2.4 Find the coordinates of the figure after reflecting in the x-axis. 1. D(-5, - 4), E(-5, -2), F(-1, -2), G(-1,-4)
posledela

Answer:

see explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

Under a reflection in the x- axis

a point (x, y ) → (x, - y ) , then

D (- 5, - 4 ) → D' (- 5, 4 )

E (- 5, - 2 ) → E' (- 5, 2 )

F (- 1, - 2 ) → F' (- 1, 2 )

G (- 1, - 4 ) → G' (- 1, 4 )

Masteriza [31]

Answer:

320 cups of soup

Step-by-step explanation:

2/5= x/800

2/5 =.04

800*.04 =320       x=320

2/5 = 320/800

2/5 =0.4  is equivalent to 320/800=0.4
