hence, the second number = x+15

The sum of both the numbers = 69

which means

x + x + 15 = 69

2x+15 = 69

Subtracting by 15 on both sides

2x + 15 - 15 = 69 - 15

2x = 54

dividing by  2 on both sides

x = 27

first number = 27

second number = 27 + 15

= 42
