Answer:

Desert

Explanation:

A biome can be defined as a portion of the biosphere with distinct flora and fauna with respect to abiotic factors such as temperature, rainfall, topography, etc. They play important roles in the sustenance of life on earth.

The major types of biomes that exist in the world include:

 • Desert biomes
 • Tundra biomes
 • Aquatic biomes
 • Forest biomes
 • Grassland biomes

The desert biomes are characterized by very little or no rainfalls with high temperature, low atmospheric moisture and low vegetation cover. Because of the high temperature and sun intensity, animals within deserts are mostly active at night in order to prevent desiccation.

Plants within the desert have also adopted some adaptive attributes in order to cope with the harsh conditions. These adaptations include having extensive roots that take in water quickly when available, possession of modified leaves to prevent excessive water loss due to evapotranspiration, etc.

The biome being described in the question is desert.

Answer:

Desert

Explanation:

Desert rainfall is 25cm per year. Animals are active at night to avoid dehydration, from the extreme temperature, they burrow into the soil during the day to avoid the heat.Plants have widespread roots to tap water from wide areas. The leaves are long and narrow to reduce the surface available for transpiration therefore conserving water.

Generally desert biome is characterised with low rainfall, high sunlight. They cover about 20 % of the earth landmass. They can be divided into four categories'hot, dry, semiarid, coastal and cold.

Which of the following is an example of potential rather than kinetic energy?
choli [55]

Answer:

D. A molecule of glucose

Explanation:

Potential energy is defined as the energy that is stored, or conserved, in an object or substance. The act of contracting muscles, emitting light flashes, flying or water moving are all dissipating energy and, thus, do not represent an example of kinetic energy. On the other hand, a molecule of glucose stores energy and therefore is an example of potential energy.

3 differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
AURORKA [14]
Eukaryote cells:
-has a nucleus
-tends to be multicellular (consisting of many cells)
-meiosis + fusion of gametes (sex cells)
-have mitochondria (powerhouse of the cell)
eg) animal and plant cells

Prokaryote cells:
-no nucleus (or membrane-bound nucleus)
-tends to be unicellular (consisting of one cell)
-no mitochondria
-partial meiosis
eg) bacteria and archaea
