In Herman Melville's MobyDick, Captain Ahab, nicknamed Old Thunder was the main protagonist. The whale MobyDick bit off his leg.<span>He had a prosthesis made out of whalebone. His whaling ship Pequod's voyage eventually became a hunt for revenge on the whale.</span>
