Which sentence describes the main idea of this passage? Every so often, I consider simplifying my life and getting rid of my lan

dline phone so that I just have a cell phone. It just seems silly to have two phones, yet something always stops me. Some little voice in my head reminds me that a landline and a cell phone have very different advantages. For example, cell phones may be fully portable, but I still haven't found one that's comfortable to talk on for long periods of time. Also, cell phone reception can cut in and out or even be lost completely. My landline is a solid, quality phone that gets excellent reception. Also, landlines do not need to be charged every day. Friends warn me that landlines are for dinosaurs, but I don't care. Landlines have become outdated because of cell phones. Cell phones are the future of wireless communication. Landlines and cell phones both have advantages and disadvantages. Technology keeps on changing over time, and people need to change with it.

Answer:

For me, the sentence that describes the main idea of this passage is the third one: <em>Landlines and cell phones both have advantages and disadvantages</em>.

Explanation:

I think that all the other options are true as well, but what the speaker is trying to explain in this excerpt is that both -landlines and cell phones- have pros and cons and that is the reason why he/she can't get rid of the landlines in order to simplify his/her life, as he/she says in the first sentence. The main message in this excerpt is the confusion of the speaker when trying to decide whether to get rid of the landline or not, he/she never gets to finally do it because he/she thinks that having a landline is helpful in many occasions.

Is Gatsby an Oxford man? Explain.
stiks02 [169]

Answer:

We could say that Gatsby created a picture of himself is an Oxford man.

One of the best evidences which determines Gatsby an Oxford man is a description from the book which refers to Jay Gatsby.

<em>"About Gatsby! No, I haven't. I said I'd been making a small investigation of his past." </em>

<em> "And you found he was an Oxford man," said Jordan helpfully. </em>

<em> "An Oxford man!" He was incredulous. "Like hell he is! He wears a pink suit.</em>

However, he isn't really an Oxford man. He tries to represent him like that in order to impress Daisy Buchanan and renew his relationship with her. With this status, he tries to include himself as a part of elite society, so that the members of the society could accept him as a rich intellectual. His attempts to be an Oxford man aren't convincing enough, so, despite all his efforts, we couldn't say he is a real example of an Oxford man.

Choose the correct statement: Median is not unique C Median is not affected by extreme values O Median is a calculated average M
serg [7]

The correct answer is: "Median is not affected by extreme values".

The median is the value located in the middle position of the sample, at the same distance for the upper and lower values. For instance, in this dataset  {1, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13}, the median is 8, in the fourth possition from the left and from the right.

It is usually compared with the mean. The main difference is that the mean is affected by outliers but the median is not. In the example used above, if substituting the value 13 for 100, the median would still be 8, as it would continue being in the fourth position from both sides.

On the other hand, the mean in the original dataset is 7.57, while after the modification it increases to 20.
