The ancient civilizations of Egypt and Nubia were indeed surrounded mostly by desert, but that did not made them isolated from the rest of the world. Both the ancient Egyptians and Nubians had constant contacts with the other civilizations, especially the Kush and the ones in the Middle East.

The contacts were mostly in trading or warfare sense, but whichever way it was, it resulted in communication, sharing of ideas, technology, movement of people.

The Egyptians especially, very often new to imposed their power in the westernmost parts of the Middle East, thus getting out of the African continent and share borders with the other civilizations.
