Only about 300 remain...". This was part of the "Trail of Tears" movement, the relocation of Native Americans including Cherokee, Creek, Seminole & Choctaw nations from their homelands to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Estimates are that 4000 of the 15,000 relocated Cherokees died on route.
