Vibrissae, more commonly known as whiskers, are sensory hair that generally have a tactile sense, which is equivalent to skin. They grow on most mammals except monotremes (duck-billed platypus and echidnas) and humans, though humans still have remnants of the muscles once associated with vibrissae in their upper lips. Vibrissae serve a number of purposes: such as sense of touch; detection of danger, air and water currents, and movements of other animals; and the locating of food.

What is the ability of nerve and muscle cells to produce quick reactions called?.
Artist 52 [7]

The ability of a nerve and muscle cell to receive and respond to a stimulus by changing its membrane potential is called Excitability.

<h3>Nerve cell</h3>
  • A nerve cell is an electrically excitable cell that communicates with other cells through specialized connections called synapses.

A group of connected neurons is called a neural circuit.

<h3>Muscle cell</h3>
  • A muscle cell refers to either a cardiac muscle cell, or a smooth muscle cell as these are both small cells.

What do areas of high albedo have in common?
juin [17]
Albedo (al-bee<span>-doh) is a measure of how much light that hits a surface is reflected without being absorbed.  Something that appears white reflects most of the light that hits it and has a high albedo, while something that looks dark absorbs most of the light that hits it, indicating a low albedo.</span>

Two students are given cubic boxes, measuring 10 cm on a side. Robert puts a single glass marble with a
Katyanochek1 [597]

Answer:

Both boxes have the same amount of empty space

Explanation:

Given

Cube Box

Length = 10cm

Robert:

1 glass marble

Diameter = 10cm

Susan:

1000 glass marble

Diameter = 1cm

Required

Whose box has more empty space?

First, we need to calculate the volume of the cubic box.

Volume = Length^3

Substitute 10cm for Length

Volume = 10^3

Volume = 1000cm^3

Next, calculate the volume of Robert's glass

Volume is calculated as:

Volume = \frac{4}{3}\pi r^3 ---- Volume of a sphere

Where

r = radius

r = \frac{1}{2} * Diameter

Diameter = 10cm --- Given

Substitute 10 for diameter

r = \frac{1}{2} * 10cm

r = 5cm

So:

Volume = \frac{4}{3}\pi r^3

Volume = \frac{4}{3} * \frac{22}{7} * 5^3

Volume = \frac{4}{3} * \frac{22}{7} * 125

Volume = 523.8cm^3

Next, we determine the volume of Susan's 1000 glasses

Volume is calculated as:

Volume = \frac{4}{3}\pi r^3 ---- Volume of a sphere

Where

r = radius

r = \frac{1}{2} * Diameter

Diameter = 1cm --- Given

Substitute 1cm for diameter

r = \frac{1}{2} * 1cm

r = 0.5cm

Substitute 0.5cm for radius in Volume = \frac{4}{3}\pi r^3

Volume = \frac{4}{3} * \frac{22}{7} * 0.5^3

Volume = \frac{4}{3} * \frac{22}{7} * 0.125

Volume = 0.5238

But there are 1000 glasses.

So, the volume of 1000 glasses is:

Volume = 0.5238 * 1000

Volume = 523.8cm^3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Robert:

Volume = 523.8cm^3

For Susan:

Volume = 523.8cm^3

Since, they have the same volume.

Both boxes have the same amount of empty space

Hi!

Recalling what you have learned about cells, you marvel at the ability of these tiny things to support their life functions. You then remember that they could not easily get much bigger without drastic changes. Explain why cells are so small, considering the relationship between surface area and volume for objects of different sizes but similar shapes.

Answer:

The reason cells are so small is because the fact that they need to diffuse through other materials more efficiently.
