IVANHOE was a painting, an opera with music by Arthur Sullivan, and a libretto by Julian Sturgis.

IVANHOE was a historical novel by Sir Walter Scott. It was first published in 1820. It was subtitled A Romance. 

It was made into an opera entitled :
Ivanhoe: A Romantic Opera In Three Acts  
Libretto by Julian Stugis
Music by Arthur Sullivan

Aside from being adapted into an opera, the novel had an adaptation for movie and tv production.

Well artists tend to make art that is important to them, and all of them have different art styles and preferences. Also it is difficult to perfectly make a symmetrically balanced piece of artwork. By using different styles and contrasting colors, or at that just looks complex and interesting to the viewer you can draw them in. Another way would be to create an artwork that can touch many different people emotionally. Overall art can be many different things to many different people.
