The Roman empire took over many different countries and turned a lot of the conquered people into slaves. They spread their ideas and religion, but mostly just wanted to be very powerful.

Juan Manuel de Rosas ruled Argentina from 1829 to 1852. He became governor of Buenos Aires after overthrowing General Juan Lavalle. Rosas ruled with absolute power for the seventeen years. Rosas, as a dictator, controlled the Catholic Church and unified the country through assassinations and terrorising. He was not able to rule for long as he defeated in the Battle of Caseros in 1852 under the leadership of Justo José de Urquiza. He went into exile in England and died there in 1877.
