The most immediate result of Diem's refusal to hold elections was that the United States withdrew its support." The answer is "The Vietcong formed to resist the government.

Further Explanations:

Ngo Dhin Diem born on 3rd January 1901 was a Vietnamese legislator and thelast Prime minister of the “State of Vietnam”who also served as the President of Vietnam from 1955 until his homicide by the military troop in 1963. His military assassination was the resultant of his leniency towards the Catholic Church and hatred for the Buddhist majority along with his institution of Strategic Hamlet Program.Diem's always tried to keep himself away from overseas affairs and stressed more on resolving the domestic issue and for that reason, he paid less attention during the Vietnam War. During Geneva accord Diem refused to hold elections suing that Vietnam haven’t signed the “Treaty of Geneva” and the Vietcong was formed thus to combat against the administration.

The Vietcong or the “National Liberation Front” was a political union of South Vietnam and Cambodia was the coalition of his armymen acknowledged as the “People's Liberation Armed Forces” of South Vietnam. The union even fought against the “United States” and “South Vietnamese administrations” during Vietnam War.

The most immediate result of Diem's refusal to hold elections was that the Vietcong formed to resist the government. Option B is correct.

The ruler of South Vietnam, Ngo Dinh Diem refused to hold elections claiming that Vietnam did not signed the Treaty of Geneva. Consequently, the Vietcong was formed to fight against the government.

The Việt Cộng also known as the National Liberation Front, was a mass political organization created in South Vietnam and Cambodia with its own army known as the People's Liberation Armed Forces of South Vietnam (PLAF). This organization fought against the United States and South Vietnamese governments during the Vietnam War.
