With more than 2 million casualties from both sides, it is considered the bloodiest battle in the history of Humanity. The serious defeat of Nazi army in this city was a severe turning point for the final outcomes of the war and it represents the beginning of the end of Nazism in Europe. This is due to the fact that the Wehrmacht would never recover completely its former strength and would not get more strategic victories in the Eastern front. As a result of this, the Wehrmacht started to retreat back to Germany under the Red Army's pressure.
