This is incorrect because Constantine or Byzantium, as it was previously called came under attack many times. However it did certainly contain important holy tombs and sacrilegious sites, which initially attracted the Christian emperor. It was also right in the middle of Europe and the Far East and was an important trading site. It also had very fertile agricultural land.
