How did geographic challenges lead to the rise of city-states in mesopotamia

Well it had more to do with geographic wonders. Rivers in the area meant fertile soil and reliable water sources. This encouraged people to settle in Mesopotamia and eventually start city-states.

I would almost agree with the previous statement, but here is a bit more information about it: Mesopotamia or "Land between two rivers" had a reputation for random and harsh flooding. They weren't as predictable as the Nile's seasonal floods, so the lack of knowing and the destruction cause but the Tigris and Euphrates rivers caused the people living within the land to have a YOLO view on life. They did have fertile land, however, because of the flooding. With this land came the cultivation of many cereal grains (From the grains came beer and bread which was often times used as, surprisingly, currency). The Mesopotamian culture, remember, was one of the first civilizations who adopted agriculture. From the Agriculture encouraged the growth of the population and development of cities. Anyway, food thrived with the great land and trade became a big thing, especially with the rivers to help trade with other lands around them. Other lands looked in and said to themselves "Hey! they have cool cookies! Let's attack them so we can become rich!" (That's not a direct quote btw) Mesopotamia became a land whose history was often filled with warfare...a lot of it. (It was basically a change in the leader who won the battle and what they named the territory most of the time) This factor, along with the flooding factor, caused a significant difference between their view on the afterlife versus the neighboring Egyptian land.  Early civilizations are SO cool! You should consider taking AP World History sometime.

What arguments could be made for or against forcing people to buy health insurance?
scZoUnD [109]

This is in my opinion one of the aspects that makes the central courts and the different lines of thought within a single subject so interesting. The clash of ideas that we have in this case is a perfect example.

On one side we have those who look at the current 30 million uninsured Americans, which include millions in Texas, and the undeniable success it had in Massachusetts. Most of them conclude that this mandate is a government success.

On the other hand, we can find those who believe that this is a terrible invasion of the government to the citizen's free will to choose their own healthcare options, they see government overreach, and at the same time an unprecedented intrusion on individual liberties to which there is no justification.

Unfortunately this is something that millions of Americans have been forced into. It's evident how they refused to create a public health care system, and instead give more power to the private sector.

After this short debate of ideas, I will give you one question to ponder on: Which principle is more important? Your freedom, your civil liberties, and your freedom from the government line of thought, or the possibilty of providing health care to millions of uninsured Americans?

I hope this solves your question!

To understand the importance
Nutka1998 [239]
Simply, because terrorist do terrorist attacks to send a message and to cause chaos. Terrorist target places like New York due to the very high population and population density in New York. Terrorist also target places like Washington D.C. because that’s where the United Sates Federal Government is located. That’s what also makes D.C. nearly impossible to attack due to its intense safety measures in place.

To simply put it, it’s because New York has a very high population and population density and D.C. is where the U.S. Federal Government is located. Terrorist attacks at low population/low population density/small government areas don’t send as big as a message/doesn’t cause as much damage unlike New York and D.C.
