The two reason are development and if a event happens to the character, the character would change his attitude toward life, like someone dying would change the tone of the story.
If I threw myself a surprise party it would be held at a planetarium and I would invite Brian May (guitarist for the band Queen, and astrophysicist) so I could ask him about his life and tell him how much I love his work in all forms (music and science).
I would just explain to them how poetry is a way of writing in order to capture physical and emotional details unable to be written in factual writing. Hope this helps :-)
