The republic of France faced opposition from royalists, who wanted the monarchy back, as well as countries around France, including Germany, Britain, etc, who wanted to return the monarchy, for they feared that the revolution would spread into their own countries and the people would topple the neighbouring countries government, which in turn would plunge Europe into disorder and chaos.
