Unicellular definition- A unicellular organism, also known as a single-celled organism, is an organism that consists of a single cell, unlike a multicellular organism that consists of multiple cells. In contrast, even the simplest multicellular organisms have cells that depend on each other to survive.

Multicellular definition- Multicellular organisms are organisms that consist of more than one cell, in contrast to unicellular organisms.

Prokaryote definition- A microscopic single-celled organism which has neither a distinct nucleus with a membrane nor other specialized organelles, including the bacteria and cyanobacteria. In a few organisms called prokaryotes, there is no defined nucleus and the DNA is found throughout the cell.

Eukaryote definition- A eukaryote is an organism whose cells contain a nucleus within a membrane. Eukaryotes vary from single-celled organisms to complex multicellular animals and plants. In fact, most living things are eukaryotes, made up of cells with distinct nuclei and chromosomes that contain their DNA.

Autotroph definition- An organism capable of synthesizing its own food from inorganic substances, using light or chemical energy. Green plants, algae, and certain bacteria are autotrophs.

Heterotroph definition- A heterotroph is an organism that cannot manufacture its own food by carbon fixation and therefore derives its intake of nutrition from other sources of organic carbon, mainly plant or animal matter. In the food chain, heterotrophs are secondary and tertiary consumers.

Hope this helps..

How does ultraviolet radiation harm living things?
Romashka [77]

Answer:

Ultraviolet (UV) photons harm the DNA molecules of living organisms in different ways. In one common damage event, adjacent bases bond with each other, instead of across the “ladder.” This makes a bulge, and the distorted DNA molecule does not function properly.

What started the study of the field of genetic engineering?
Margaret [11]

Answer:

Genetic engineering has its grass roots from the recombinant technology.

Explanation:

Genetic engineering is seen to have started from a scientists activity which involved restriction enzymes and DNA ligases that were used by Paul Berg in 1972 to create the first recombinant DNA molecules. A monkey virus which is SV40 was combined with a lambda one. Following that, the results of the experiment and attempts were further investigated by other scientists and later, the first plant that underwent genetic engineering was the plant tobacco.

Which organisms are most closely related?
aivan3 [116]
Taxonomy s the branch of science that deals with the classification of living and extinct organisms.

Using taxonomy, plants and animals are classified according to the following: Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus and Species. Taxonomy is also used to identify the species that are related to each other.

Organisms are named using the binomial system of nomenclature that was developed by Linnaeus. The binomial system, also known as the scientific name, is consist of two parts: the Genus name and the Specific Epithet.

For this problem set, the Mergus serrator and the Mergus merganser is closely related to each other, since they both have the same Genus.
