For these two, you'll want to use the equation <em>a^2 + b^2 = c^2, </em>a and b are the legs of the triangle (the shorter one going across and the other going up straight), and c is the hypotenuse (the diagonal leg that connects a and b).

So #1 for example, (6 ft)^2 + x^2 (the depth of the water) = (15 ft)^2. 36 ft +x^2 = 225 ft. When you solve for x, you should get approximately 13.75 ft.

Now for #2, you are given that a = 3 and c = 5, plugging those numbers into the equation will give you b :)

Is the following relation a function?
abruzzese [7]

Answer:

Yes bc the x is not repeating

Step-by-step explanation: Remember if the domain(x) is repeating like (4,4) (4,3) it is not a function because of the x and don't worrying about the y (range)  and if the domain is not repeating like (2,3)(3,8) it is a function bc of the domain (x) hope this help:)

Find the value of x using the diagram below. Round to the nearest whole number. Picture Attached.
VashaNatasha [74]
Both triangles are right triangles. x is the hypotenuse of the upper one. ThePythagorean formula  will give the value of x. One side is known, The other side we will find using the fact that the lower right triangle is isosceles. The hypotenuse of an isosceles right triangle has a length of \sqrt{2} times the length of one of the legs. In this case 14. So the hypotenuse of the lower triangle is also the short side of the upper triangle. Using Pythagoras

25^{2} +  (14 \sqrt{2}) ^{2} = x^{2}

625 + 392 =  x^{2}

 1017 =  x^{2}

32 = x

In this equation, we are solving for f. The first thing we have to do is get rid of the denominator, so we have to multiply both sides by 9, which leaves us with 9C=5*(f-32). Then we divide both sides by 5, which is 9/5C=f-32. The last thing we have to do is add 32 to both sides to isolate f, which gives us our final equation of (5/9)C+32=f.
