What you're supposed to do is rewrite what John Adams said in your own words.
Essentially, John Adams is saying he like the Missouri compromise because it is Constitutional and will keep the United States from dividing—he says that if the United States does divide eventually, it will be because of slavery. However, he says the Missouri compromise has kept that from happening for right now.

I have preferred this Missouri compromise. Believing that i could be successful under the present constitution, and from unwillingness to put the union in danger. If the union must be broken down, then slavery is the exact thing which it ought to break. For the present, the contest is done.

How are in-groups different from out-groups: An outgroup is any group that you don't belong to, while an ingroup is a group that you associate yourself with.
