Amino acids are categorized into three prime groups, that is, the essential, non-essential, and conditional amino acids. The essential amino acids are not produced within the body and had to be taken via an external source. There are nine essential amino acids.  

The nonessential amino acids are the ones that get produced within the body, even if one does not take it from outside, they are produced spontaneously. These amino acids are 11 in number. These are arginine, alanine, cysteine, aspartic acid, glutamine, glutamic acid, proline, glycine, tyrosine, serine, and asparagine.
