Proteins are one of four classes of biological macromolecules. Which of the following statements regarding proteins is NOT true?

Biology
1 answer:
dangina [55]3 years ago

Answer:

Statement 'C' is incorrect

Explanation:

Enzymes (which are a <em>form </em>of proteins) have a function of regulating the rate of biochemical reactions (they're biological catalysts, meaning they speed up reactions) ₋ in this instance, the statement would be correct.

However, this is not the only<em>, </em>or as the statement puts '<em>one specific function'</em> of an protein. For example, haemoglobin (a protein) contains haem groups that bind to oxygen. In this instance, a protein's function has nothing to do with '<em>biochemical reactions'.</em>

3 Which statement best describes a cause and its effect that occurs during the process of muscle contraction? A. The release of
Y_Kistochka [10]

Answer:A. The release of calcium ions causes myosin and actin to attach to each other.

The contraction of skeletal muscles takes place by induction of a nerve impulse, which produces a movement and the interaction of the filaments containing proteins named as actin and myosin. This interaction of filaments is regulated by proteins  called tropomyosin and troponin present on the actin filaments. The motor nerve causes the depolarization of the muscle membrane sarcolemma. This triggers the sarcoplasmic reticulum to release calcium ions. This calcium binds to troponin and thus allows the tropomyosine strand on the actin filament to displace so that the part of the actin where myosine head needs to be attached remain uncovered. Binding of the actin myosine filament results in contraction.

Hence, the release of calcium ions causes myosin and actin to attach to each other causes muscle contraction.

Hi

your response to this answer would be

The base components of nucleic acids are hetero cyclic compounds with the rings containing nitrogen and carbon. Adenine and guanine are purines, which contain a pair of fused rings; cytosine, thymine, and uracil are pyrimidines, which contain a single ring.

i hope this helps
