It is an event which occurs at the early systole during which the ventricles contracts and volume is kept constant .  

It is a short portion of the cardiac cycle which takes place when all the valves of the heart are closed .

The phase of isovolumetric contraction last for about 0.03 s , and this time period is sufficient to generate high pressure which can overcomes that of aorta and the pulmonary trunk on the opening the valves .
