Glycogen is a highly branched starch where the branches are connected through a-1,6 linkages. During glycogen degradation, these

branches are processed through a 2-step process where 3 glycogen residues are transferred to the end of another strand and the a- 1,6 linkage is cleaved by an a-1,6 glucosidase, also known as the debranching enzyme, to produce ______
a) glucose 1-phosphate
b) glucose 6-phosphate
c) glucose
d) maltose
e) sucrose

Answer:

a) glucose 1-phosphate

Explanation:

Glycogen is a highly branched polysaccharide of glucose . During breakdown of glycogen or glycogenolysis , glycogen phosphorylase starts removing glucose units having alpha -1,4 linkage from non-reducing end one by one and produces glucose-1-phosphate until 4 glucose residues ahead of alpha -1,6 linkage. Next de -branching enzyme transfer 3 glucose units to some outer chain and then breaks alpha -1,6 linkage . The glucose-1-phosphate then converts into glucose-6-phosphate by phosphoglucomutase and undergoes glycolysis .

Digestion of nutrients begins in varying places. For carbohydrates it begins in the ________, for proteins in the _____ and for
aniked [119]

The correct answer for this question is 'Mouth, Stomach, Small Intestine'.

what is Digestion?

Digestion is the process of breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water soluble molecules for absorption is called as digestion

The digestion of Carbohydrates usually takes place in small intestine but the digestion process starts in the mouth by the help of salivary amylase present in the saliva. The complete digestion takes place in small intestine with the help of pancreatic enzymes called α-glucosidase and amylase

The protein digestion takes place in the stomach as the Ph conditions are favourable for the digestion of proteins the stomach walls release pepsin enzyme for the synthesis of proteins the protein digestion also takes place in small intestine.

Lipids are mostly digested in the small intestines by the help of bile and pancreatic lipases the lipids get  broken down to fatty acids and monoglycerides for easier absorption this process of breaking down fats is called as Emulsification
