England had a traditon of self-government since the Middle Ages, and several events and revolutions led to the gradual weakening of the monarch, and the strengthening of the parliament.
This allowed England to transition to democracy better than other European countries. For example, England did not go through a bloody revolution just like France only to become a dictatorship again a few years later when Napoleon took power.
England also avoided transitioning from a feudal monarchy to a communist totalitarian state like it happened in Russia.
