Health

Skeletal muscles are attached to your bones by tissues called tendons. The tendons on the end of the muscle attach firmly to the bone. As the fibers in a muscle contract, they shorten and pull the ten- don. The tendon, in turn, pulls the bone and makes it move.

Muscles are also necessary for movement: They're the masses of tough, elastic tissue that pull our bones when we move. Together, our bones, muscles, and joints — along with tendons, ligaments, and cartilage — form our musculoskeletal system and enable us to do everyday physical activities.

A.

The ability of your heart and lungs to work during prolonged exercise
