A 53-year-old male with past medical history of obesity (BMI of 38 kg/m2) and borderline diabetes presents to you with abnorma

l liver enzymes (ALT/AST) discovered 6 months ago. His family history is significant for liver cirrhosis. On physical examination you notice mild hepatomegaly (enlarged liver). A panel of lab tests revealed the following: aspartate aminotransferase (AST) 106 (normal range 10 – 40 U/L), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) 118 (normal range 7 – 56 U/L), with normal bilirubin (generated from the breakdown of hemoglobin). He had a liver ultrasonography that showed diffuse increase in echogenicity and vascular blurring consistent with fatty infiltration. You suspect nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Under normal conditions, describe the metabolism and maturation of VLDL particles. Describe how NAFLD could manifest and what potential processes could be impaired in order for this disease process to occur (consider both enzymatic and hormonal impairments).

David, a CMA (AAMA), obtains Mr. Washington’s vital signs after he has escorted him to the examination room. David notes Mr. Was
liq [111]

According to the BP values that Mr. Washington presents, we can say that he is showing hypertension.

Accordingly, we can answer the questions shown above, as follows:

  • BP is the acronym for blood pressure and is considered normal when it presents values lower than 140/90 mmHg. Mr. Washington is showing 148/92 mmHg of blood pressure, which shows that he is hypertensive, that is, he is showing blood pressure above normal

  • African American people like Mr. Washington are more likely to develop hypertension because they are more sensitive to sodium and can accumulate this element in the body more intensely than white people.

  • To help Mr. Washington control blood pressure, the doctor should recommend physical exercise, increased water intake, and a diet free of sodium and fat.

10.0 g of table salt, NaCl, is dissolved in water to a total volume of 125.0 mL. What is the resulting molar concentration of th
marysya [2.9K]

Taking into account the definition of molarity, the molar concentration of the table salt is 1.368 \frac{moles}{liters}.

<h3>Definition of molarity</h3>

Molar concentration or molarity is a measure of the concentration of a solute in a solution and indicates the number of moles of solute that are dissolved in a given volume.

The molarity of a solution is calculated by dividing the moles of solute by the volume of the solution:

molarity=\frac{number of moles}{volume}

Molarity is expressed in units \frac{moles}{liters}.

<h3>Molar concentration of the table salt</h3>

In this case, you have:

  • number of moles= 10 g×\frac{1 mole}{58.45 g}= 0.171 moles [being 58.45\frac{g}{mole} the molar mass of NaCl]
  • volume= 125 mL= 0.125 L [being 1000 mL= 1 L]

Replacing in the definition of molarity:

molarity=\frac{0.171 moles}{0.125 L}

Solving:

<u><em>molarity= 1.368 </em></u>\frac{moles}{liters}

Finally, the molar concentration of the table salt is 1.368 \frac{moles}{liters}.
