"The Swimming Contest" is a short story written by Benjamin Tammuz. In the story, Abdul-Karim is the Uncle of Nahida. Nahida is the granddaughter of an Old lady. Abdul-Karim is the one who had a swimming competition with the protagonist. The final expression of Abdul-Karim is most symbolic of a long-lasting struggle having no sight of victory.
