What might happen if you attempt to converse with a group of Japanese people using American conversation style, or with a group

It might cause confusion and irritation due to cultural differences in conversation styles.

Explanation:

Americans like to talk fast and interchange ideas as they are speaking. They can sometimes interrupt others while they're speaking to add their own ideas and that's just normal behavior in these parts. However, the Japanese like taking their time speaking in order to get their ideas across. The person they are speaking to will listen silently and intently and then make a comment (if there is one) after the first person finished talking.

So, you see where the problems may arise. If an American person suddenly interrupted the Japanese person while they are speaking, they would be irritated and consider it extremely rude. On the other hand, if a Japanese person spoke to Americans using their own conversation styles, Americans might feel impatient and want to add their own thoughts.
