Grierson and his men were supposed to get away from Confederate forces by picking a route that would unite them with Union forces.

Grierson’s Raid was most effective & famous Cavalry raid launched during the Civil War which was commanded by Benjamin Grierson. This raid was very successful against the confederate forces which were on the river Mississippi.

Grierson along with his men was able to get away from the Confederate forces by taking a route which would help them to unite with union forces.  Raid was launched in the centre of the Mississippi State which created a distraction for the confederate forces so that they do not pay attention to Grant’s move.
