Answer:

The Explicit formula is  f(x)=9(1.5)^{3x}

The recursive formula is

f(x+1)=f(x)\cdot (1.5)^3

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A certain culture of yeast increases by 50% every three hours. A scientist places 9 grams of the yeast in a culture dish.

To find : Write the explicit and recursive formulas for the geometric sequence formed by the growth of the yeast?

Solution :

Number of grams of yeast in a culture dish initially a= 9 grams

A certain culture of year increases by 50 % every three hours.

r=50% , t=3

So, the explicit formula will be

f(x)=a(1+\frac{r}{100})^x

f(x)=9(1+\frac{50}{100})^{3x}

f(x)=9(1+0.5)^{3x}

f(x)=9(1.5)^{3x}

The recursive formula is

f(x+1)=a(1+\frac{r}{100})^{x+1}

f(x+1)=9(1+\frac{50}{100})^{3(x+1)}

f(x+1)=9(1+0.5)^{3x+3}

f(x+1)=9(1.5)^{3x+3}

f(x+1)=9(1.5)^{3x}\cdot (1.5)^3

f(x+1)=f(x)\cdot (1.5)^3

Therefore,

The Explicit formula is  f(x)=9(1.5)^{3x}

The recursive formula is

f(x+1)=f(x)\cdot (1.5)^3

Explicit:  \bols{a_n=9(0.5)^{n-1}}

Recursive:   \bold{a_n=0.5(a_{n-1}),\quad a_1=9}

<u>Step-by-step explanation:</u>

A certain culture of yeast <u>increases by 50% every three hours</u>

⇒ rate (r) is  \dfrac{1.5}{3}=0.5

A scientist places <u>9 grams</u> of the yeast in a culture dish.

⇒ first term of the sequence (a₁) = 9

The explicit rule for a geometric sequence is: a_n=a_1(r)^{n-1}

⇒ a_n=9(0.5)^{n-1}

The recursive rule for a geometric sequence is: a_n=r(a_{n-1})

⇒ a_n=0.5(a_{n-1}),\quad a_1=9

Describe what happens to the graph of y=3x + 4 when the slope is changed 1/3 one over three
kumpel [21]

Answer:

see the explanation

The graph in the attached figure

Step-by-step explanation:

we have

y=3x+4

This is a linear equation (the graph is a line)

The y-intercept is the point (0,4) ---> value of y when the value of x is equal to zero)

The x-intercept is the point (-4/3,0) ---> value of x when the value of y is equal to zero)

The slope is m=3

If the slope is changed to m=1/3

we have

y=(1/3)x+4

This is a linear equation too (the graph is a line)

The y-intercept is the point (0,4) ---> is the same

The x-intercept is the point (-12,0) ---> the x-intercept is different

The slope is m=1/3

The second line becomes a lot less steep

Remember that the slope is the ratio between the rise and the run

In the first line the ratio rise/run is 4/1

In the second line the ratio rise/run is 1/3

Rachel has 31,672 in a savings account that earns 5% interest per year. The only interest is not compounded. To the nearest cent
timofeeve [1]

Answer:

$1583.60 in interest (i), in addition to her savings (s) of $31,672.00

$33,255.60 total (t) after one year.

Step-by-step explanation:

$1583.60(i)(5%)+$31,672.00(s)= $33,255.60(t)

A teacher needs 70 lengths of string cut to 40 cm each. If balls of string are 10 m long, how many balls will be needed.
artcher [175]
Three balls will be needed. You will need 70 pieces of the 40 cm string so 70 multiplied by 40 equals 2800. Next you need to convert the 2800 cm into meters and 2800cm= 28 meters, so if each ball of string is 10 meters long you will need 3 of them which will give you 30 meters so you will have enough with a little extra. Hope this helped!
