In which situation would you write an informal, friendly letter?
scZoUnD [109]

Answer:

To tell your cousin about a soccer goal that you made

Explanation:

O to express your opinion about a proposed law: If you write a friendly informal letter, you would probably be disgraced and your opinion ignored.

O to thank your teacher for providing encouragement: You should still write a pretty formal letter, if you write one at all, since it is your teacher.

O to tell your cousin about a soccer goal that you made: You can write an informal, friendly letter since it is a cousin, and it is only about a soccer goal you made.

O to ask the mayor if you may interview her for the school paper: If you write a friendly letter to the mayor, you will have about 0% of her saying yes.

Write a dialogue between two siblings in modern times who disagree about an action that is ethical or moral, but might lead to t
Ksju [112]

Answer and Explanation:

Martin’s bedroom. Martin is lying on the bed, his right arm covering his eyes. Colt is walking back and forth.

COLT: Just don’t do it, man.

MARTIN: (sighs) I haven’t made up my mind yet.

COLT: Then listen to me. This will only bring you trouble.

Colt sits at the food of the bed. Martin uncovers his eyes.

MARTIN: Isn’t it the right thing to do?

COLT: In theory, yeah. But I can assure you he will find out it was you who snitched.

Martin sits up. Stares at Colt.

MARTIN: How? Wait, first of all, let’s not call it “snitch”. I signed an Honor Code. We all did. He knows he is not supposed to cheat.

COLT: True. Listen, you don’t have to discuss this with me. I get what you’re saying. What he did was wrong, unethical. What you are about to do is your moral obligation. It is all logical and beautiful until it isn’t. I’m sure he knows someone who knows someone else who can ask the principal who it was that told him. He’ll know it was you. You’ll be making an enemy for life.

MARTIN: (after a pause) So this is what life is all about? Being afraid of doing the right thing? This is not how I want to live.

COLT: No one does. But – and this is my opinion - unless it is a matter of saving someone’s life, you shouldn’t go around being the almighty moral upholder.

MARTIN: (laughs quietly) That is not a thing.

COLT: (laughs) It sounds like a good definition for the kind of person you are. Quit being so uptight, man. So he cheated on the test. So what? Let it go this time.

MARTIN: I wish they wouldn’t do that…

COLT: What do you mean? Who? Do what?

MARTIN: I wish they – everyone, society, adults… - wouldn’t come up with all these rules just to make our lives miserable.

Read this excerpt from "The Open Boat" by Stephen Crane:
seraphim [82]

The figure of speech used in the phrase "babes of the sea" is (D) a metaphor. A metaphor is a figure of speech that consists in a comparison. This comparison is made between two things that are not related but have a certain characteristic in common. In this case, "babes" is not used in its original meaning but the author refers to his feeling of insignificance when compared to the nature.
