It had a brief existence of only sixteen months and was supplanted by the transcontinental telegraph. Yet it was of the greatest

importance in binding the East and West together at a time when overland travel was slow and cumbersome, and when a great national crisis made the rapid communication of news between these sections an imperative necessity.
Which of the following BEST summarizes the main message of these lines?

The Pony Express was invaluable during the national crisis
The Pony Express was all that was available during the national crisis
The transcontinental telegraph replaced the Pony Express (i think this is right)
The transcontinental telegraph would have been more effective (doubt this is right)

The answer is The Pony Express was invaluable during the national crisis.
Pony Express started in the 1800s when three men had put up a mail delivery system that would reach from Midwest to California. The design of the system connected a number of over one hundred stations, each almost two hundred forty miles long, across the country. It had given a needed service but it was never quite the financial success it was envisioned to be.

BaLLatris [955]

Answer:

1. Cathartic (arousal of emotions)

2. Self-purification

3. Logic and harmony in thoughts.

Explanation: Gandhi was a leader, mentor, and an authority in himself. His ideals are still being used for reference. The way he used to drive the audience mad through his impressive speech pattern and techniques to follow his principles is miraculous. His impressive speech pattern and techniques used to connect to the audience via arousing their emotions (Cathartic in Aristotelian term) as the subjects of his speech are more often dominated by the personal experiences and talks about morality, truth, non-violence, harmony, etc. These subjects developed a sense of credibility and authenticity among the audience towards him. Lastly, his ideals were quite logical and reasonable which made his speech very persuasive in nature and thus, he was successful in delivering his message to his audience's mind and heart throughout.

Her religious background in the main body of the what was given establishes her as a Quaker. If that's all she was, she would have been forgotten 10 years after her death. D is almost irrelevant: it is not the answer.

B is true but the main body of the excerpt is much more concerned with why she broke "the law" and voted.

A
That could have been put somewhere in the paragraph, but it is not a good conclusion.

C is right because after her death, what she worked tirelessly to achieve came to pass with the passage of the 19th amendment.

The most enslaved people in the world for the longest period of time is definitely women. The 19th Amendment was part of a needed change in world (male) thinking.
