Assuming you need to solve for x:

-6(x + 6) - 10 = -2(5 + 4x)

start by distributing your numbers outside the front of your parentheses:

-6x - 36 - 10 = -10 - 8x

then combine like terms:

-6x - 46 = -10 - 8x  ... add 10 to both sides (which technically could have cancelled out in the step prior, but regardless)
-6x - 36 = -8x  ... add 6x to both sides
-36 = -2x ... divide both sides by -2
x = 18

How much smaller is the sum of the first 1000 natural numbers than the sum of the first 1001 natural numbers?
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

ANSWER

1001

EXPLANATION

The sum of the first n - natural numbers is

S_n=  \frac{n}{2} (2a + d(n - 1))

The sum of the first 1000 terms is

S_{1000}=  \frac{1000}{2} (2(1) + 1(1000 - 1))

S_{1000}=500 (1001)

S_{1000}=500500

The sum of the first 1001 terms is

S_{1001}=  \frac{1001}{2} (2(1) + 1(1001 - 1))

S_{1001}= 1001 \times (501)

= 501501

The difference is

501501 - 500500= 1001

What is the chance of rolling a 4 with a single die four times in a row?
Anni [7]
This is the concept of probability, we are required to calculate for the probability of rolling a 4 with a single die four times in a row;
To solve this we proceed as follows;
The probability space of a die is  x={1,2,3,4,5,6}
The probability of a die falling on any of this number is:
P(x)=1/6
Thus the probability of rolling a 4 with a single die four times which makes up mutually exclusive events will be:
1/6*1/6*1/6*1/6
=(1/6)^4
=1/1296
The answer is B] 1/1296
