Lets make the cost of the algebra textbook = x and the cost of the geometry book = y

2x+3y=64
4x+2y=66

now we get one of these equations in terms of one variable

2x+3y=64 ---> 2x=64-3y ---> x=32-1.5y

now we can plug that numeric value back into the other equation

4(32-1.5y)+2y=66

we can now simplify this equation in order to get the value of y

4(32-1.5y)+2y=66 ---> 128-6y+2y=66 ---> 128-4y=66 ---> -4y=-64 ---> y=16

A new catalyst is being investigated for use in the production of a plastic chemical. Ten batches of the chemical are produced.
zzz [600]

Answer:

CI=(66.54,78.46)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : A new catalyst is being investigated for use in the production of a plastic chemical. Ten batches of the chemical are produced. The mean yield of the 10 batches is 72.5% and the standard deviation is 5.8%. Assume the yields are independent and approximately normally distributed.

To find : A 99% confidence interval for the mean yield when the new catalyst is used ?

Solution :

Let X be the yield of the batches.

We have given, n=10 , \bar{X}=72.5\% , s=5.8%

Since the size of the sample is small.

We will use the student's t statistic to construct a 995 confidence interval.

\bar X\pm t_{n-1,\frac{\alpha}{2}}\frac{s}{\sqrt n}

From the t-table with 9 degree of freedom for \frac{\alpha}{2}=0.005

t_{n-1,\frac{\alpha}{2}}=t_{9,0.005}

t_{n-1,\frac{\alpha}{2}}=3.250

The 99% confidence interval is given by,

CI=72.5 \pm 3.25\frac{5.8}{\sqrt{10}}

CI=72.5 \pm 5.96

CI=(72.5+5.96),(72.5-5.96)

CI=(66.54,78.46)

Two boys are running track. They decide to start in the northwest corner and go opposite directions around the rectangular track
Mariulka [41]

= <u>187.3 yards</u>

Step-by-step explanation:

The set-up will represent a triangle whereby the :

  • Width = Height = 150 yards
  • Diagonal = Hypotenuse = 240 yards
  • Length = Base = ?

{a}^{2}  =  {c}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}  \\ {a}^{2} =  {240}^{2}  -  {150}^{2}  \\ {a}^{2} = 57600 - 22500 \\  \sqrt{ {a}^{2} }  =  \sqrt{35100}  \\ a = 187.3yards \: (rounded \: off \: to \: 1dp)

Bowser ate 4 1/2 pounds of dog food. That amount is 3/4 of an entire bag of dog food. How many pound of dog food were originally
GalinKa [24]
Divide number of pounds eaten by the portion of the bag eaten.

= 4 1/2 pounds ÷ 3/4
= 4.5 ÷ 0.75
= 6 pound bag

CHECK:
multiply total pounds of bag by portion eaten
= 6 pound bag * 3/4
= 4 1/2 pounds eaten

ANSWER: The bag was 6 pounds of dog food.

Hope this helps! :)
