Sandblasting equipment acquired at a cost of $40,000 has an estimated residual value of $8,000 and an estimated useful life of e
marta [7]

Answer:

a. $3,000 ; $4,000

b. $7,500 ; $8,125

Explanation:

The computation of the depreciation expense under each method is shown below:

a) Straight-line method:

= (Original cost - residual value) ÷ (useful life)

For year 1

= ($40,000 - $8,000) ÷ (8 years)

= ($32,000) ÷ (4 years)

= $4,000

In the first year, the nine months depreciation would be charged

= $4,000 × 9 months ÷ 12 months

= $3,000

The 9 months is calculated from April 1 to December 31

In this method, the depreciation is same for all the remaining useful life

So, in year 2, the depreciation expense is $4,000

(b) Double-declining balance method:

First we have to find the depreciation rate which is shown below:

= Percentage ÷ useful life

= 100 ÷ 8

= 12.5%

So, the rate would be double i.e 25%

In year 1, the original cost is $40,000, so the depreciation expense is

= $40,000 × 25% × 9 months ÷ 12 months

= $7,500

The 9 months is calculated from April 1 to December 31

And, in year 2, the depreciation expense would be

= ($40,000 - $7,500) × 25%

= $8,125

Honeycutt Co. is comparing two different capital structures. Plan I would result in 12,700 shares of stock and $109,250 in debt.
Ulleksa [173]

Answer:

Check the following calculations

Explanation:

All-Equity Plan:

Number of shares = 15,000

Plan I:

Number of shares = 12,700

Value of debt = $109,250

Price per share = Value of debt / (Number of shares under All-Equity Plan - Number of shares under Plan I)

Price per share = $109,250 / (15,000 - 12,700)

Price per share = $109,250 / 2,300

Price per share = $47.50

Plan II:

Number of shares = 9,800

Value of debt = $247,000

Price per share = Value of debt / (Number of shares under All-Equity Plan - Number of shares under Plan II)

Price per share = $247,000 / (15,000 - 9,800)

Price per share = $247,000 / 5,200

Price per share = $47.50

The opportunity cost of being a full-time student at a university instead of working full-time at a job includes all of the foll
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

a.Payment for meals

Explanation:

Opportunity cost is referred to as the next best alternative.

Opportunity cost means the benefits foregone of the non chosen alternative when an alternative is chosen from the available set of options which includes the non chosen option.

For e.g storage of money at home has an opportunity cost in the form of loss of interest had the same money been invested elsewhere apart from assuming the risk of loss of theft.

In the given case, the opportunity cost of being a full time student at a university instead of working full time at a job includes the opportunity cost in the form of income from that full time job in addition to specific expenses incurred for being a full time student such as Payment for tuition, Payment for books.

Thus, payment for meals represents a common cost which would've been incurred anyway irrespective of whether one attends full time college or does a full time job.

insens350 [35]

Answer:

The journal entry is as follows:

Explanation:

Work in Progress A/c............................................Dr    $198,000

Labor efficiency variance(unfavourable)...........Dr   $9,000

                      Labor rate variance A/c........................Cr      $4,600

                      Wages Payable A/c.................................Cr    $202,400

Working Note:

Standard hour = Standard direct labor hours × (Standard hour - Actual hour)

= $2.2 × 5,000

= $11,000

Labor efficiency variance = $18 ×  (11,000 - 11,500)

= $18 × 500

= $9,000

Standard cost = Standard rate ×  Standard hour

= $18 × 11,000

= $198,000

Actual Cost = Actual rate × Actual hour

= $17.6 × 11,500

= $202,400
