So basically it takes 10 people to paint a whole building. Forget about the 5 days. That's just there to confuse you. You have to first find out how much of a building can one person paint so, 1/10. So that means that 7 people can paint 7/10 of a building in 5 days

ANSWER

\frac{7}{10}

EXPLANATION

It was given that, 10 people can paint a building in 5days.

We can write the ratio,

10 : 1

Now we want to find how much of the building

7 people could paint in the same 5 days working at the same rate.

Let it be in the ratio,

7 : x

Then we can write and solve the following proportional equation for x,

10 : 1 = 7 : x

We can rewrite this as a fraction to get,

\frac{10}{1}  =  \frac{7}{x}

Let us now cross multiply to get,

10x = 7

We divide both sides by 10 to obtain,

x =  \frac{7}{10}
This means the 7 people can only paint a fraction ( 70%) of the building and not the whole building.

Find the solution of the system of equations.
avanturin [10]

Answer:

3

Step-by-step explanation:

The number is 3.

Step-by-step explanation:

Finding the Number

To find the number, we have to translate the problem above to an algebraic equation. The algebraic equation refers to the statement of the equality of two algebraic expressions.

Equation:

Let "x" be the number.

4 is divided by a number - 4/x

3 divided by the number decreased by 2 - 3/x-2

"4 is divided by a number is equal to 3 divided by the number decreased by 2"

4/x = 3/x-2

Solution:

Cross multiply.

4/x = 3/x-2

x(3) = 4(x-2)

3x = 4x - 8

(Combine similar terms.)

3x - 4x = - 8

- x = - 8

- x/- 1 = - 8/- 1

x = 8

Final Answer:

8

Checking:

4/x = 3/x-2

4/8 = 3/8-2

1/2 = 3/6

1/2 = 1/2 ✔
