Once upon a time, a mother duckling sat on her eggs with great impatience. How long would it be before they hatched? Finally, on
givi [52]

Answer:

In the first story, the ugly duckling is criticized for not being the stereotypical appearance of a duckling similarly to the princess and how she was also judged because of how the royalty perceived a princess to look like. In the Princess and the Pea, she is tested with the pea just like the ugly duckling was tested by the mother duck about how they could swim and dive under water. In both stories, there is a significant link to time and patience referring to how the ugly duckling took longer to hatch and she sat on them with 'great impatience' and how the queen and king had already 'searched far and wide'. This represents how with time, you can get to know people and understand them, which demonstrates how you shouldn't jump to conclusions when meeting people. There's also connotations to independence: the girls 'independent spirit' and how the duckling would 'run far away' which is when he found his true self. This explains how by putting others down, it can negatively effect them and the way they look at themselves, causing low self-esteem. However, there is a big contrast between the luxury that the princess is born with and then welcomed into and the ugliness that the duckling is treated with throughout the story, until they realise their appearance. There's also a difference between the emotions that they both feel as the princess is not told that they do not like her appearance or mistreated as much in anyway. This shows the prejudice side of the story, whereas the duckling is continuously mistreated by the other ducklings which shows the discrimination.
