I think that this is the case because Germany is struggling with the legacy of the Second World War, when they caused a lot of suffering, lead to the death of many people and forced many to become refugees. By being more open to refugees I think Germany is trying to compensate for the wrongdoings from the past.

2. more sustainability
3. be respectful (this leads to strengthened community and societal harmony)
4. more scientific research, especially in medical industry for solutions to combat diseases.
