As you work through this lesson, you will complete the following graded assignment. The entire assignment is to be turned in at
once, although you need to work on one or more parts every day. You may do a written assignment or a slide show. Please refer back to the orientation section for directions on submitting a slide show assignment. Research the hardships of the early colonies and colonists. Pretend you are partiticipating in a town meeting to discuss the problems you are facing as a town. In your assignment, include challenges for the colony that would discuss at the meeting and why. Here is a guide of important topics to cover: What are some things you need to do as a group in order to overcome the hardships of the New World? (Hint: think of specific challenges faced by early settlers, such as food, shelter, transportation, illness, education, and community organization). Is everyone doing his or her job, and if not, what should the colony do about it? Are everyone's religious concerns being respected and addressed. If not, what can be done? •What do you need from England to help you meet the challenges of surviving and then thriving in the New World?
