(3/4)*[12*4+(-16)]+(-20)

PEMDAS is order of operations...

Parentheses first, exponents next, multiplication/division, finally addition/subtraction.

So the first thing you need to address is the innermost parentheses

(3/4)[12*4-16]+(-20)  now you have multiplication in one set of parentheses

(3/4)[48-16]+(-20)  now you still have addition/subtraction in the middle parentheses

(3/4)(32)+(-20)  and you have a multiplication in for the last parentheses

(3/4)(32)-20  we have multiplication on left side

96/4-20  now we have division on left

24-20  and finally subtraction

Determine if the lines are parallel, perpendicular, neither or the same line: 3x + 2y = 1 and y = -x - 1.
Svetradugi [14.3K]

Answer:

Neither

Step-by-step explanation:

When you rearrange the equation 3x+2y=1 in the form of y=mx+c

you get:

2y=-3x+1

y=-\frac{3}{2} x+0.5

And if you compare it with the equation y= -x -1

You can see that the gradient is not the same, so it means it is not parallel.

To get if it is perpendicular you need to see if the two gradients multiply to give the value -1 but when you multiply

-\frac{3}{2}×-1= 3/2 so it is not perpendicular as well

I hope it is right, feel free to point out anything wrong or you're unsure of :)

12.Divide. (x^2+2x+1/x^2-8x+16)/(x+1/x^2-16
lina2011 [118]
For this case we have the following expression:
 (x ^ 2 + 2x + 1 / x ^ 2-8x + 16) / (x + 1 / x ^ 2-16)
 Rewriting we have:
 (((x + 1) (x + 1)) / ((x-4) (x-4))) / (x + 1 / ((x + 4) (x-4)))
 Then, we cancel similar terms:
 ((x + 1) / (x-4)) / (1 / (x + 4))
 Rewriting:
 ((x + 1) (x + 4)) / (x-4)
 Answer:

((x + 1) (x + 4)) / (x-4)
