Vestigial structures are parts of an animal's body that serve no function, but did in earlier evolutionary stages. Two examples of this are the human appendix and the snake pelvic bone.
They can both be used to identify organisms. Also, the phenotype of an organism is different depending on the genotype of the organism, making them relate to one another.
