Answer:Conservation biologists, philosophers, environmental ethicists, and others offer several key reasons to conserve biodiversity. One argument is that organisms have direct economic value for humans. We use plants and animals for medicines, food, clothes, building materials, recreation, and other luxuries and necessities. But what if an organism that is of no use to us for food or hides is screened for useful medicinal compounds and found to have none? Do we sanction its extermination? Why must a plant or animal be of direct economic benefit to humans to have worth? Economic value alone is not the only reason to preserve biodiversity.

Another reason often given…to conserve biodiversity is that organisms, as components of ecosystems, provide services, and their interactions with other organisms contribute to the overall healthy functioning of ecosystems… On a practical level, biologists want to know just how much the loss of a few species will reduce the quality of services within a specific ecosystem. Two schools of thought prevail.

7. Which land biome has the greatest diversity of plant species, and which has the least? a.grassland: most; tundra: least b.rai
Aleks [24]

A) Grassland: Most & Tundra: Least - This answer is incorrect, because grassland biomes are definitely not known for their high plant diversity. As one could imagine, the primary plant found here is grass (and large shrubs.)

B) Rain Forest: Most & Taiga: Least - While this answer is pretty close, a taiga biome does not hold the least amount of plant diversity.

C) Rain Forest: Most & Tundra: Least

D)Temperate Forest: Most & Taiga: Least: As mentioned in B, Taigas do not hold the least amount of plant diversity.

ANSWER:

C) Rain Forest: Most & Tundra: Least

Which best describes the difference between osmosis and diffusion? Osmosis is the movement of particles from a high to a low par
Luba_88 [7]
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high to low particle concentration, while osmosis is the movement of water from a high to a low water concentration.

It's actually really simple:
1) Diffusion simply means liquid or gas particles spreading out. They spread out from the area where most of the particles are orginally located. In other words they thus spread out from a HIGH CONCENTRATION area to a LOW CONCENTRATION area. 2) Osmosis is LITERALLY just DIFFUSION OF WATER. HOWEVER, you MUST use the word 'osmosis' when referencing such diffusion of water.

Write a paragraph about the effects of Acid precipitation on Earth.
alexandr1967 [171]
When acid precipitation occurs, it effects Earth in a few ways. One way is that when the acid rain soaks into the soil, it removes the nutrients that plants rely on. This, in turn, damages a lot of vegetation. Another way is that it raises acidity levels in water. The higher the acid levels, the more it harms the organisms living in water.

I think this sounds alright

To study osmosis, a student placed a thin potato slice in a salt solution. The slice became soft and shriveled. Then, he placed
mezya [45]
Osmosis is the movement of water from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration across a selectively permeable membrane. Simply put, water passes across membranes into areas where more 'stuff' is dissolved.
In this system, The slice shriveled in salt solution. That means water left the potato's cells. Then the slice regained its shape when placed in pure water. That means water moved back into the cell.
A) incorrect. Salt does not move across the membrane
B) incorrect. If water moved into the slice, it would have swelled, not shriveled
C) correct. Water moved out of the cell into the more concentrated salt solution
D)incorrect. Placing the slice in pure water does not balance the concentration of salt between the cells and the water.
