Write at least five complete sentences about the Continental Divide
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

A continental divide is a drainage divide on a continent such that the drainage basin on one side of the divide feeds into one ocean or sea and the basin on the other side feeds into a different ocean or sea.  The most famous Continental Divide of the Americas is called the Great Divide. It separates the watersheds of the Pacific Ocean from those of the Atlantic Ocean. It runs from Alaska, through western Canada along the crest of the Rocky Mountains to New Mexico. From there, it follows the crest of Mexico’s Sierra Madre Occidental and extends to the tip of South America. However, this isn’t North America’s only continental divide, there is also the Northern Continental Divide, the Eastern Continental Divide, the Saint Lawrence River Divide, the Great Basin, and the Laurentian River Divide.

Out of all of the Enlightenment thinkers, who stood out the most and why? Do you agree with Hobbes' Enlightenment ideas? Support
Katarina [22]

Answer:

Thomas Hobbes, an English philosopher and scientist, was one of the key figures in the political debates of the Enlightenment period. Despite advocating the idea of absolutism of the sovereign, he developed some of the fundamentals of European liberal thought.

Hobbes was the first modern philosopher to articulate a detailed social contract theory that appeared in his 1651 work  Leviathan. In it, Hobbes set out his doctrine of the foundation of states and legitimate governments and creating an objective science of morality.

Hobbes argued that in order to avoid chaos, which he associated with the state of nature, people accede to a social contract and establish a civil society.

One of the most influential tensions in Hobbes’ argument is a relation between the absolute sovereign and the society. According to Hobbes, society is a population beneath a sovereign authority, to whom all individuals in that society cede some rights for the sake of protection. Any power exercised by this authority cannot be resisted because the protector’s sovereign power derives from individuals’ surrendering their own sovereign power for protection.

Hobbes also included a discussion of natural rights in his moral and political philosophy. While he recognized the inalienable rights of the human,  he argued that if humans wished to live peacefully, they had to give up most of their natural rights and create moral obligations, in order to establish political and civil society.

Read the section "Germany invades Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France." Describe how the Germans invaded France and why
romanna [79]

Answer and Explanation:

Germany managed to invade France in 46 days. This surprised all of Europe who believed that the French resistance would be more aggressive, and could even defeat the Nazis.

One of the main reasons why Germany managed to conquer France was the use of the blitzkrieg. This was an innovative strategy for the time, when the German attacked its enemies with a series of coordinated attacks that united infantry, aviation and armored vehicles in a single point of the enemy's defense. To attack France, Germany used this strategy in the Ardennes, where the French army was completely cornered.

In addition, the German army made constant use of methamphetamines, which allowed soldiers to spend long periods of time without getting tired, promoting a progressive and fulminating attack.
