Due to the important role of DNA for living beings, knowledge about DNA sequencing can be useful in virtually any area of biology such as evolutionary and phylogenetic studies, searching for the genetic basis of disease, gene cloning and reproduction.

DNA sequencing is the process performed to determine the exact sequence of nucleotides in a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) molecule. This means that by sequencing a DNA fragment it will be possible to know the sequence in which the four nucleotide bases (adenine, guanine, cytosine and thymine) occur within that nucleic acid molecule. Through sequencing (which is possible) it would be possible to lead to legal issues regarding discrimination and privacy and could help to make informed choices about medical treatment, in addition to other advantages that sequencing makes possible.
