Workers demanded higher wages and safer working conditions. Industrialism created a mass consumption society, in which goods and services were at a high demand. As a result, factory owners exploited their workers in order to achieve highest efficiency and output of goods. This led to poor working conditions and low wages for workers.
<span>At the time, the United States had many fears as the war loomed on and took over the globe. The United States government decided to accept a smaller number of Jewish immigrants than it could have handled because there was a fear of enemy agents sneaking in, there were antisemitism problems in the US, there was still a bit of depression, and a lack of jobs for that many people.</span>
In the West, the Vicksburg campaign, where Grant captured the last Confederate stronghold on the Mississippi, dividing the Confederacy into two parts, and enabling him to rescue the besieged Army of the Cumberland at Chattanooga. (This ended the war in the West).
