Which statement correctly describes the nuclear envelope of a eukaryotic cell? See Concept 6.3 (Page 102) View Available Hint(s)

Which statement correctly describes the nuclear envelope of a eukaryotic cell? See Concept 6.3 (Page 102) The nuclear envelope is a single membrane, consisting of a phospholipid bilayer. Plasmadesmosomes in the nuclear envelope permit the exchange of macromolecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. All of the proteins of the cell are synthesized on ribosomes bound on the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope is continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum. The outer layer of the nuclear envelope is coated with laminin.

The correct answer is: The nuclear envelope is continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum

The nuclear envelope or nuclear membrane is composed of two phospholipid bilayers (outer and inner) that surround the nucleus in the eukaryotic cell. The space between the outer and inner membranes is called the perinuclear space. The nuclear envelop has nuclear pores that are responsible for the transport between nucleus and cytoplasm (e.g. transport of mRNA).

Of these 5 components, pepsin is the principal enzyme involved in digestion of protein. However, pepsin is released in its inactive form, or zymogen form, known as pepsinogen. By secreting pepsin in its inactive form, the stomach prevents digestion of protective proteins in the lining of the digestive tract.
