The religious groups responded to the challenges of industrialization, as they worked for reform and social services.

Further Explanations:

During the 19th century, rapid industrialization and urbanization occurred in the United States. Numerous immigrants from the rural areas settled in the urban area in search of employment and money. Though vacancies were not much and many of them stayed idle. They were on edge of starvation and at that time these religious groups helped them with food and shelter. The emphasized themselves more on social services than on criticizing the development.

The movement was grounded at the local level but soon took the face of a nationwide movement gaining support mainly from middle-class citizens. The era was termed as the Progressive era emphasizing on removing the obstacles that were coming on the way of urbanization, settlement, and Industrialization. Progressive reforms in the levy increased the assets of the government and also attempted to summarize the tax incidence for the individual having minimum ability to pay such taxes. These reforms diminished the societal glitches associated with high-income disproportion.
