The plants that grows in the <u>tundra region</u> are generally very short and are mostly less than a height of 1 feet. The soils are not rich in essential nutrients that is required by the plants. They are mostly comprised of organic materials.
Due to the presence of short stem, it helps the plants to capture heat from the dark colored soil. This heat helps them from getting freezed. One of the advantage of short plants is that wind and cold cannot affect them much. The roots of these plants are very short as they cannot extend wide and broadly due to the presence of permafrost layer.
