Los efectos fueron La riqueza, el prestigio, las políticas y el poder de Atenas causaron resentimiento entre otras ciudades-estado. Una plaga que mató a muchos atenienses ayudó a Esparta a derrotar a Atenas. La Guerra del Peloponeso debilitó a todas las ciudades-estado griegas durante 50 años.
