Read the excerpt from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. I had two sisters and one brother, that lived in the same hou

se with me; but the early separation of us from our mother had well nigh blotted the fact of our relationship from our memories. What effect does Douglass’s use of the word "blotted” have on the narrative? It creates the image of an unbreakable bond between Douglass and his family. It reminds the reader of the efforts that Douglass made to learn to write. It implies that Douglass and his siblings nearly forgot about their early lives. It emphasizes that Douglass felt he could rewrite elements of his past.

No! Living there would be a nightmare for me, I'm what you would call "mixed." In the book you're reading the towns folk believe in segregation and punish those unjustly because of the color of their skin. It's also a very poor part of Alabama based on the description so schools would be awful, neighborhoods might be riddled with crime, and community resources would be very limited or non-existent (community centers, parks, hospitals, etc).

As for the second half, it was absolutely cruel. The parents should have kept a better eye on their children and reprimanded them for being so inconsiderate. They should have also educated them on letting other people just be since we're all different, with our own challenges.

20. When a novelist uses an allusion in her story, she encourages readers to ask questions about the novel’s themes and characte
NikAS [45]

Answer:

Provides clues about how the novels conflicts will be resolved

Explanation:

"Allusion is a figure of speech, in which an object or circumstance from unrelated context is referred to covertly or indirectly. It is left to the audience to make the direct connection. Where the connection is directly and explicitly stated (as opposed to indirectly implied) by the author, it is instead usually termed a reference. In the arts, a literary allusion puts the alluded text in a new context under which it assumes new meanings and denotations. It is not possible to predetermine the nature of all the new meanings and inter-textual patterns that an allusion will generate. Literary allusion is closely related to parody and pastiche, which are also "text-linking" literary devices."
